Feisul Idzwan Mustapha is currently engaged in the practice of public health in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with special focus on diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. At the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), his main roles include developing and strategic implementation of interventions for the prevention and control of NCDs.
He is currently developing the next National Strategic Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases (NSP-NCD) Malaysia. In operationalising the earlier NSP-NCD 2010-2014 and following up on earlier activities prior to 2010, several specific “Action Plan” documents and initiatives relating to NCDs and NCD risk factors have been developed and published by MOH. An integrated approach is essential for effective implementation of the plan, and therefore the new NSP-NCD will over-arch these existing actions plans and initiatives.
In 2015 and 2016, he was with the Steno Diabetes Centre Malaysia working on the Steno REACH Certificate Course (SRCC) in clinical diabetes care. SRCC is a capacity building initiative in collaboration with MOH, targeting non-specialist doctors and nurses working in public health clinics. He is currently involved with the research in evaluating the effectiveness of the SRCC in improving quality of diabetes care at the primary care level.
