Prof. Dr. Tan Meng Hee

 

Dr. Tan is Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Metabolism, Diabetes andEndocrinology in University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.

A medical graduate (MD cum laude) of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, he did hispostgraduate training in internal medicine at Dalhousie University, in diabetes at the Joslindiabetes Center, Harvard University, Boston, and in lipoprotein metabolism at theCardiovascular Research Institute, University of California in San Francisco.

Since 1975 he has been involved in diabetes research, care and activities.
• His diabetes research spanned from basic to clinical to drug development to educational to epidemiological and to translational studies. His research interests are in diabetes and cardiovascular disease and he has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers.
• His diabetes care spanned from providing individual patient care to directing a diabetes care center to chairing the First Expert Panel on Clinical Practice Guidelines in the Management of Diabetes in Canada and to implementing Diabetes Disease Management in several Asian nations.
• His diabetes activities spanned from being President, Canadian Diabetes Association to Chair, Canadian Diabetes Advisory Board to Vice-President, International Diabetes Federation to Advisor in Diabetes, World Health Organization, to advising Governments on diabetes matters, to setting up the Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia and to being a consultant to Project HOPE in the China Diabetes Education Program.
He is the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Diabetes and Endocrinology, an open accessjournal published collaboratively by University of Michigan and BioMed Central of Springer-Nature.
